Reading a Stock โ The Basics
When you look up a stock (e.g., on Google Finance, Moneycontrol, or TradingView), you'll see several numbers. Here's what the key ones mean:
- Market Price (LTP) โ The last traded price. What one share costs right now.
- Market Cap โ Total value of all shares combined. Market Cap = Share Price ร Total Shares. Large cap (>Rs 20,000 Cr), Mid cap, Small cap.
- Volume โ How many shares were traded today. Higher volume = more interest and liquidity.
- 52-Week High/Low โ The highest and lowest price in the past year. Gives you context on where the current price sits.
- Day's Range โ Today's high and low price.
