Reading a Stock โ€” The Basics

When you look up a stock (e.g., on Google Finance, Moneycontrol, or TradingView), you'll see several numbers. Here's what the key ones mean:

  • Market Price (LTP) โ€” The last traded price. What one share costs right now.
  • Market Cap โ€” Total value of all shares combined. Market Cap = Share Price ร— Total Shares. Large cap (>Rs 20,000 Cr), Mid cap, Small cap.
  • Volume โ€” How many shares were traded today. Higher volume = more interest and liquidity.
  • 52-Week High/Low โ€” The highest and lowest price in the past year. Gives you context on where the current price sits.
  • Day's Range โ€” Today's high and low price.
