Reading a Stock — The Basics
When you look up a stock (e.g., on Google Finance, Moneycontrol, or TradingView), you'll see several numbers. Here's what the key ones mean:
- Market Price (LTP) — The last traded price. What one share costs right now.
- Market Cap — Total value of all shares combined. Market Cap = Share Price × Total Shares. Large cap (>Rs 20,000 Cr), Mid cap, Small cap.
- Volume — How many shares were traded today. Higher volume = more interest and liquidity.
- 52-Week High/Low — The highest and lowest price in the past year. Gives you context on where the current price sits.
- Day's Range — Today's high and low price.
